HEAD SURF COACH
Location: Atlantic Park Surf – Virginia Beach, VA
Job Type: Part-Time/Seasonal
Pay: $19-$24/hour
Start Date: April 6, 2026
About the Role:
As a Head Surf Coach you’ll ensure that guests at every age and ability acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to further their progression. In group and private settings, you’ll provide instruction, encouragement and feedback on how to better ride waves. You’ll monitor surfers, enforce safety protocol, respond to emergencies, oversee assistant coaches, and be a friendly face for our guests. Whether offering a suggestion for improvement with a smile or leading a group of grommets through the whitewater, you’ll be helping someone achieve the highlight of their day.
What You’ll Do:
Ensure guests have proper equipment for their skill level and chosen session
Conduct pre-surf instruction along lagoon deck
Ascertain surfers’ current capabilities to help them set session goals
Assist guests in learning to navigate the lineup on their own
Diagnose challenges in catching/riding waves and communicate them effectively
Maintain spacing in the lineup to facilitate proper heat management
Provide session recaps to foster goodwill and continued skills improvement
Conduct post-heat video reviews to elucidate areas for improvement
Respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies
Provide exceptional customer service assisting guests with surfboard and wetsuit rentals
Requirements:
Strong swimming skills and physical fitness
Clear communicator with a calm, confident presence under pressure
Prior experience in surfing instruction
Commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and guest service values
Lifeguard certification (class provided after hiring)
